Incorporated on December 23, 2007, NASW Insurance Company (NASWIC) operates as a dynamic for-profit subsidiary of NASW Assurance Services (ASI), which itself is wholly owned by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). As a reinsurance captive company, NASWIC is pivotal in supporting NASW’s Professional Liability Insurance Program (PLI), a flagship product essential for delivering unparalleled value to NASW members and the social work profession.
Based in the metro Washington, D.C. area and regulated by the local Department of Insurance, NASWIC ensures financial stability and reliability. Premiums are systematically written and earned over time, with claims and administrative expenses meticulously managed. NASW Assurance Services Inc. oversees marketing, customer billing, underwriting, and servicing, while NASWIC holds reserves to offset future claims.
NASWIC was established to:
- Enhance services for NASW members.
- Strengthen the operations of NASW Assurance Services.
- Provide greater control over service.
- Contribute to the growth of the captive insurance industry in Washington, D.C.
