About Us

About NASW Insurance Company

The NASW Insurance Company (NASWIC) was established on December 23, 2007, as a for-profit subsidiary of NASW Assurance Services (ASI). Backed by ASI, which is wholly owned by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), NASWIC serves a pivotal role in providing reinsurance for NASW’s Professional Liability Insurance Program (PLI). This flagship product underscores our commitment to offering valuable services to NASW members and the social work profession.

NASWIC operates as a reinsurance captive company, domiciled in Washington, D.C., under the regulation of the Washington, D.C., Department of Insurance. Our primary mission is to support NASW members by ensuring robust insurance coverage, managing claims efficiently, and maintaining reserves to offset future liabilities. Through strategic efforts, NASWIC aims to strengthen NASW Assurance Services and explore new insurance programs.

Empowering Social Workers with Reliable Coverage

NASWIC is dedicated to enhancing the services available to NASW members by offering reliable and comprehensive insurance solutions. Our reinsurance programs are crafted to provide the utmost protection, allowing social workers to focus on their vital work with peace of mind.

Our Mission

Since 2007, NASW Insurance Company (NASWIC) has played a vital role in meeting the insurance needs of the social work profession.

NASWIC provides underwriting and reinsurance to insurance carriers such as The Hartford that insure social work professionals, including members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the world’s largest membership organization of professional social workers.

NASWIC shares income made from its underwriting and reinsurance services and its investments with its parent company, NASW Assurance Services, Inc., to support the NASW Insurance Program, which provides its members with the insurance they need to serve their communities and other NASW programs.

As a for-profit company, NASWIC seeks to grow by pursuing opportunities to provide underwriting and reinsurance for insurance carriers. If you are an insurance carrier interested in discussing a relationship with NASWIC, please contact us.
