Sekou Murphy
Sekou Murphy is Chief Financial Officer for NASW and has over 25 years of experience in insurance, healthcare, not for profit, structured finance, real estate, investments, technology and trade associations.
Prior to NASW, Mr. Murphy was the Chief Financial Officer at CCI Health Services and Bread for the City, both Federally Qualified Health Centers, where he structured the financing, land acquisition and construction of real estate expansions, and managed the finances of the organizations.
Prior to these organizations, Mr. Murphy managed S Murphy Holdings, an investment company focused on real estate, public/private company investments and advisory services to multi-billion-dollar insurance companies and venture-backed technology companies. Prior to these roles, Mr. Murphy was Senior Analyst at AM Best, a ratings agency, where he covered property and liability insurance companies including super regional, multinational, reinsurance and captive insurance companies, and Audit Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers primarily serving many of the firm’s flagship insurance clients, as well as healthcare, not-for-profit, investment company, real estate investment trust, and high-tech clients.
Mr. Murphy also serves on the boards of several organizations, including Gilchrist, Maryland’s largest hospice care provider, and the Horizon Foundation, Maryland’s largest private foundation focused on health outcomes. Mr. Murphy received his BBA in Accounting from Howard University, where he also played football, and his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also the winner of the 2012 Smart CXO Award for Chief Financial Officer.
In his spare time, Mr. Murphy loves being with his family, especially watching the kids play soccer, volleyball and perform.
